This started as a SXSW guide but I thought I would keep it up for people visiting our fair city and it’s grown and grown. Here is a simpler list of 100% vegan places. And my Vegan Tour of Austin. Also here is a late night guide. And let me know in the comments if you hear something, it’s gotten tough to keep up with. People ask me all the time to make this an app but I don’t know how! I do know on my iphone I can navigate to this page on safari and then press the button that says “add to home screen” under the box with the arrow and then my logo shows up right on the phone. It’s super helpful when you are in a strange part of town.

The list starts with places that are walking distance to the convention center and moves out from there with an emphasis on late night places. And remember this is all my opinion and what I like or have heard about. I haven’t even been to all of these places! If you have anything to add or questions please comment at the bottom, I continuously update the list.

Downtown 

Anthem 91 Rainey St. Vegan options marked like a curry hot dog and charred cauliflower at this “tex-asian pub”

G’raj Mahal– 91 Red River with table service open 5 to 3am. Indian classics vegan items marked Close to the convention center. The rice is supposedly vegan.

Tapas Bravas 75 Rainey Street. Authentic Spanish tapas with a couple vegetarian and vegan snacks, like marinated olives and fried potatoes. Open until midnight Wed & Thur, 3am Fri & Sat, and 9pm on Sunday.

La Fantabulous 1213 Corona D Portabello & Onion tacos at this trailer. Open til midnight on the weekend.

Masala Dhaba 75 Rainey St They have a vegetarian section on their menu at this food trailer that includes stuff like Aloo Gobi, Korma, and Samosas. Open til 3am on the weekend.

Via 313 – 61 Rainey St Behind Craft Pride. Trailer with Detroit Style Pizza with follow your heart cheese. Open til 2am on the weekends.  They have other trailers throughout town and a couple of restaurants serving their awesome pizza too.

Bangers Sausage House and Beer Garden 79 Rainey Street. Bar with a beer garden and off-leash dog park and giant bike rack. Only one of the four vegetarian sausages is vegan but hey, your dog will be happy.

Phoenician Restaurant 84 N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd. This Lebanese spot has all the usual suspects, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, eggplant dishes, and falafel.

Forthright 98 San Jacinto just south of Cesar Chavez and Brazos. This coffee shop has some veganizable breakfast options like avocado toast and butternut toast.

Congress Second Bar + Kitchen– 2nd & Congress Upscale, the menu isn’t very vegan-friendly but apparently they will make you fabulous food if you ask nicely or call ahead Sunday – Thursday, 11 a.m. – Midnight Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. Here is a review from Veggies, Foodies, Austinites.

Yummi Joy 409 W 2nd Street Sweet Riual Ice cream and some fun vegan items are available at this candy shop.

She’s Not Here – 440 West 2nd St. Fancy cocktails and some creative vegan sushi options.

CAVA 515 Congress Ave – Fast-casual chain with customized salads and grain bowls.

PF Changs– American Chinese chain restaurant on 2nd & San Jacinto. Questionable sugar. Close to the convention center

Mai Thai – 207 San Jacinto Boulevard Tiny Thai Restaurant with the usual suspects. Open until midnight Friday & Saturday

Hoboken Pizza– open until 2:30am Red River & 7th. Vegan Pizza on Red River with Daiya and Tofu Ricotta!

Hot Dog King– 8th & Red River trailer. vegan dogs. open late

Cheer Up Charlie’s– 900 Red River St All vegan bar. Fun place, with lots of events, raw vegan chocolate & Kombucha on tap. Super LGBTQIA friendly.

Arlo’s Austin– On the Cheer Up Charlies patio. An all vegan trailer with the best Bac’n Cheeze Burger in town or maybe the world. They have more locations at the Spider House and The Grackle. My review

Carmelo’s 504 East 5th Street. Sit down Italian place with a vegetarian menu. Many items can be veganized including the gnocchi.

Jugo Fresh Juice 603 Brazos  bar with some vegetable dishes like spring rolls, roasted cauliflower and olives, or quinoa, sweet potato and cashew or tomatillo, black bean and brown rice. Second location on North Lamar.

The Jackalope– 6th street bar. Portobello Pesto Sandwich is vegan. Even the pesto! Open til 2am

The Squeezery 123 E 7th St locally sources juicebar.

Voodoo Doughnuts – 212 E 6th St The line is long and it’s cash only but all the doughnuts on the top shelf of the spinning bakery case are vegan. Will be open 24hrs.

The Alamo Drafthouse– 320 E 6th Street and Multiple Locations.You can get a vegan burger patty made by Beyond Meat on any of the burgers or have tofu in the wraps. They change the menu quite a bit and sometimes things are vegan but sometimes things that were vegan no longer are so check with your server. The buffalo cauliflower is soooo good.

Daruma Ramen 612-B E 6th St. Vegan Ramen, last time I went they had two different kinds, the standard veggie, and a miso. They could also veganize several other menu items.

Easy Tiger Bake Shop and Beer Garden, 709 E. Sixth St. Some vegan items, the veggie sausage, peperonata, sauerkraut, braised red cabbage. When I asked they about which breads are vegan this is the response “All of our hearth breads (those that are baked in our deck oven) are vegan. The breads which are not vegan include our pretzels, pretzel buns, hamburger buns and a couple of Pullman loaves which are mainly sold wholesale. None of our pastries are vegan.”

Papadom 310 Colorado St This Indian spot has a vegan section of the menu that has quite a few offerings from Channa Masala to Baingan Ka Salan (Sauteed eggplant prepared in coconut tamarind sauce). Get free delivery if you are close by from Postmates if you order over $20.

Comedor 501 Colorado St, Austin Minimalist styled Modern Mexican Cuisine with vegan options like a Spaghetti Squash Tamale with Mole Amarillo & Sikil Pa’k. Make reservations to make sure you get a good spot inside this beautiful space.

Blenders and Bowls 4th and San Jacinto You can have blended smoothies or Brazilian style bowls that have all sorts of health fruit blends topped with things like granola, hemp milk, and cacao nibs. They also have a truck at 2512 Rio Grande.

Backspace 507 San Jacinto. Most of the antipasti like, chickpeas, tomato, onions, basil, oregano or spicy cauliflower, capers, calabrese, lemon are vegan and the pizza crust is vegan too at this classy brick oven pizza place and bar downtown. They have valet and are open until 11pm.

Jim Jim’s Water Ice, 4th & Guadalupe if you are in need of Italian Ice this is the spot.

Chispas 214 West 4th Street This San Antonio restaurant has vegan tacos like Tofu Al Pastor and Avocado Tostadas and good cocktails. Just make sure to let them know you are vegan.

Koriente– healthy Korean style food. My review here. Right by the Beauty Bar on East 7th. Close at 9:30

The Hideout– On 617 Congress, coffeeshop, theater, and venue. Has sandwiches, soup, wraps, coffee, and baked goods. NOW carrying local Sweet Ritual vegan ice cream and milkshakes! open until 10 or 11. Long Lines sometimes during the fest.

Swifts Attic 315 Congress above the Elephant Room. This fancy tapas place doesn’t look very vegan-friendly at first but the chefs were happy to make us all sorts of delightful stuff and they had this amazing toasted coconut forbidden rice curry. The cocktail menu was delish too and they even had giant goblets of Grog!

JW Marriot- 110 E 2nd S inside this hotel the Corner restaurant offers Zucchini Cornbread, Vegetable Stuffed Poblano, and Roasted Squash & Farro Salad. Osteria Pronto also on site, offers vegetarian panini and meat-free pizzas.

Kebabalicious– 2nd & Congress for lunch 7th & Trinity for dinner. Falafel, hummus, turk salad, pita. strange hours & they move around, check the site or call 512.418.1065

Vaquero Taquero 5th & Congress right outside the Mexic-Arte Musem. M-F 7am to 10:30. Corn tortillas are vegan and there is a vegan potato and serrano breakfast taco on the menu.

Chi’Lantro BBQ, Multiple Locations 823 Congress Avenue. Korean BBQ trailers and restaurants has a fab tofu taco for 2 dollars. You can also follow them on twitter. Will probably be open until at least 2am during the weekend. They have a vegan and GF cheat sheet you can ask for as well.

Chipotle-801 Congress Chain no longer owned by McDonald’s. Vegan items include rice, black beans, fajita veggies, salsa, and guacamole, the Pinto beans no longer contain bacon. Open 11-5

Which Which, 259 West 3rd St, open 10-10. white rolls are vegan, wheat contains honey. You mark all the toppings that you want so it is easy to order veg.

Austin Java– Under city hall (The crazy looking building with the scary point) and on 12th & Lamar. Breakfast tacos. Smoothies, salad, vegetable plate. Most things on the menu aren’t vegan as is so be careful when ordering. Note that their airport location has nothing vegan except fruit. Open until 10.

The Four Seasons 98 San Jacinto Blvd off Cesar Chavez. Restaurants at Four Seasons apparently always have a vegan menu. Ask the server here, it usually has multiple courses based on season.

Mama Fu’s 100 Colorado St (at Cesar Chavez) and multiple locations and other locations all over town. This Pan Asian Chain Delivers! Choose your protein and your sauce from a wide selection. The Lonestar Plate has noted what’s vegan.

Daily Juice – 205 W 3rd St. Smoothies, Juice, and Raw Food. 7am-7pm

La Condesa– West & 4th. Fancy Mexico City style food with really nice atmosphere and bar. The vegan platter isn’t on the menu but if you call ahead they will make it. There is a cauliflower steak on the menu that’s all vegan and delicious. They also have dessert and the guacamole sampler can be veganized. Open until 11 most days.

Spin Ping Pong Bar  213 W 5th St has veggie tacos, hummus, and shishitos.

Italic 123 West 6th Street. Finally an “approachable” Italian restaurant downtown. Or so their site says. Vegans Rock Austin got the details of what can be made vegan on their menu which included pizzas, pasta, and vegetable dishes.

Péché– Absinthe bar. Will make vegan items if you ask, different every night. Specials on twitter

Holy Roller 509 Rio Grande- this all day brunch spot only has one vegan option, but it’s a popcorn tofu sandwich with escabeche & fried pickles.

Wu Chow – 500 W. 5th. Fancy Chinese spot with a vegetable menu that is all vegan. The fried rice can also be vegan with no egg and there will be a vegan dim sum option on the weekend.

Super Burrito  817 W 5th St outside of the Tiniest Bar in Texas. Cali-Mex food truck with California style burritos like Jolly Green Giant 8.49 Black, white, and pinto beans, mushrooms, bell peppers,  potatoes, tomatoes, sautéed in olive oil in a spinach tortilla. They deliver too.

Whole Foods- Flagship store on 6th & Lamar. Crazy busy. Parking goes underground for 3 levels.  They have a salad bar/super bar that has a lot of random items usually the ingredients are listed and things are marked vegan. To-go section as well. They will also deliver to downtown by bike.

Next Level Burger 525 N Lamar Blvd Inside Whole Foods at 6th and Lamar. This 100% plant-based burger shop has a huge variety of patties and toppings for the burgers along with fries or tots with cheese sauce or not, and then a range of coconut based milkshakes. Open from 11-10. Introverts take note that all orders are on iPads.

24 Diner– Across the street from Whole Foods next to Waterloo music is this diner that is open around the clock. Veggie Po’Boy and a Veggie Burger but check to see if they have added vegan bread, at last report it was not. They do have a grilled vegetable dish on the menu.

JuiceLand – All vegan mostly raw juice place that has raw food and vegan to-go food as well like salads and hummus.  Everything is very high quality and expensive but so worth it. If you can’t decide, get the daily special. There are locations now in every part of town.

Joe’s Coffee– Multiple locations one on 2nd and one on South Congress. Veg Frito Pie & Chili. Garden Salad. BBQ sandwich. Cupcakes from Happy Vegan Baker and Doughnuts from Red Rabbit. Am not sure if the burger or the veggie dog is vegan. If anyone knows for sure let me know

Leaf– 419 West 2nd. An all salad place where you go down the line picking what you want. They have tons of options. Twitter Specials

Violet Crown Cinema 434 W 2nd St. This indie movie theater has vegan snacks like avocado spring rolls, tofu lettuce wraps, a beet falafel wrap, noodle salads, popcorn  and drinks you can get at the concession bar before the movie. You can also park at their garage for free for 4 hours.

True Food Kitchen 222 West Ave. This restaurant in the old power plant has both vegan and vegetarian items marked on the menu. Large selection of fresh cocktails. There is a second location in the domain.

ThunderCloud Subs- Multiple locations including 903 West 12th St and 1608 Lavaca The Veggie Delight is one of my favorite sandwiches in town. I never knew hummus and guacamole would work so well together.  There has been controversial but the bread is vegan according to both the people I talked to at Thundercloud and the New World Bakery where they get their bread

Soup Peddler, 12th & Lamar healthy smoothies and soups and a few salads. There are always vegan options

Darna Mediterranean Cuisine 408 W 11th St Unit 100 Mediterranean and Morrocan restaurant with a vegetable mezze plate, a vegetable tangine, breakfast tacos with a hummus option and other possibilities.

Arturos- 314 West 17th Street a little taco joint in a basement. Multiple vegan taco options for breakfast and lunch.

Keso’s Tacos 600 West MLK. The refried beans are not vegan but the black beans are. You can get breakfast tacos or several vegetable taco options. I tried the “Barton Springs” Grilled cabbage, pico de gallo, roasted potatoes, sliced avocado, topped with guajillo sauce on a corn tortilla and it was really good.

Clay Pit 1601 Guadalupe St. Indian. Lunch Buffet. All vegan menu if you ask. The basement dining is really nice.

Scholz Garten 1607 San Jacinto Blvd. Historic German restaurant with a vegan burger served with vegan mayo and vegan cheese. Avoid the BBQ sauce which has anchovies.

3rd base sports bar– 1717 West 6th Street Nanette says they have an awesome big salad here and they are open until midnight or 1

Snap Kitchen 1014 W. 6th Street and another location at 4616 Triangle Ave. Snap Kitchen makes to-go foods at their kitchen and then puts them in containers at their two locations for sale. The idea is that people can get really healthy food to go. The vegan options are surprisingly good. I love their soups, I’d say they are the best I’ve had in Austin. They also have vegan scrambles, salads, smoothies, entrees and other healthy items. They will even bring it to your car.

Conan’s Pizza, central, north and south locations. Daiya pizza delivery until 11pm on weekdays 12 on weekends. You can order online!

West

Veggie Heaven 1611 W. Fifth This classic campus Asian style restaurant reopened under new management on the west side. Favorites like Protein 2000, Tangerine Mushrooms, and Bubble Tea remain the same.

The Beer Plant– 3110 Windsor Rd. Vegan Gastropub with full bar, happy hour, and dinner entrees like fish and chips with hearts of palm subbing in for fish and a barbequed seitan sandwich. Weekend Brunch includes chicken and waffles, Tofu Migas, and French Toast.

Rabbit Food Grocery  2425A Exposition Blvd An all-vegan grocery store packed with all the vegan goodies that are hard to find anywhere else. They also have vegetables, exotic cheeses, vitamins, local handmade knitted items, dog food, and more.

Bar Peached 1315 W 6th St This cute bar in Clarksville has vegan dishes on the menu noted, like Kale Tempura and Pesto Udon.

Skinny Limits (multiple locations many on the west side) As someone who learned long ago that I will never be skinny I can promise you that I will never set foot in this restaurant but since they do have mostly vegan options I would be remiss not to mention them. Juice cleanses mock tuna salad sandwiches, zucchini pad thai and smoothies with names like the “Sun Salutation”.

Mozart’s 3825 Lake Austin Boulevard This lakeside coffee shop has vegan chili, The Hearty Vegan’s Tempeh Salad and Frito pie along with their regular assortment of espresso and gelato. The chocolate sauce for mochas is dairy free. They also get vegan baked goods from Quaks like chocolate vegan muffins and trail mix cookies and some bars. Open until midnight weekdays and 1 am weekends.

Maryes 3663 Bee Caves Rd. Vegan Cheese available and different interesting toppings like apples and toasted almonds along with the regular suspects.

MOD Pizza – 701 S Capital of Texas Highway, 1920 E Riverside Dr, 1801 E. 51st St. This chain has spots in Mueller, on Bee Caves, and on east Riverside. Create your own pie with dairy-free cheese & tons of veggies. You can top it off with some sriracha or a bbq swirl

The Grove Wine Bar Westlake 6317 Bee Caves Road & Lakeway 3001 RR 620 South. Vegan options like the Asian Crisp Salad are marked on the menu with an E at this wine bar.

Red Lotus Asian Grille 6507 Jester Blvd Ste 501 Mostly Chinese entrees where you pick your protein including tofu.

Simply Pho 12918 Shops Pkwy Off 71 by the Hill Country Galleria. Outside Bee Caves. The Pho isn’t vegan but they also have a Thai menu and vermacelli bowls.

Anti Social Ice Cream (formally Vicecreme) 6650 Comanche Trail #109 by the Oasis on Lake Travis. All vegan ice cream shop.

Crêpeful 6550 Comanche Trail #117. Japanese style crepes can be made with vegan batter. They also have raindrop cakes.

Saffron 3201 Bee Caves Rd- Indian-Nepalese restaurant with vegetarian and vegan options like coconut mushroom curry and vegetable momo marked. North location on 113 3616 Far West Blvd.

Wild Taco 3800 Dry Creek. They have a variety of the typical tacos (avocado, mushroom, bean etc)

Living Desert Ranch Foundation 22701 Hwy 71. Way out in Spicewood this combination cactus nursery, vegan B&B, and “modern-day church” has special holiday feasts and other lunches, reserve in advance.

South

Casa De Luz– All vegan macrobiotic place, behind Barton Springs on Toomey. A really lovely place with shared tables. The menu changes daily. Hippie.

The High Note 300 South Lamar – Modern “healthy” food. The Cuban sandwich with peppered beets was my favorite… or the sweet potato pineapple lime juice. You can get any of their fresh juice cocktails healthy or boozy & they can veganize most of the menu, I had the breakfast skillet which was some slices of tofu, a pile of kale, and some sauteed veg. The antipasti with picked blueberries, cashew cheese, and braised eggplant among other delicious bits was delightful. And they have cashew queso! And edamole

Quezzas –  424 S Lamar Blvd. “Modern Mexican Pizza”. This food truck takes a go veggie stuffed quesadilla and tops it with more cheese, salsa verde, soy chorizo, and romaine lettuce but you can substitute whatever other vegetables you like.

Austin Food Company & GreenSpace Cafe  at the Squarerut Kava Bar on Barton Springs. Mineral Rich vegan food like local grain bowls, Goodness Gracious Wild Stir-fry, and Electrified Wild Blueberry Pancakes made with Irish Sea moss and ancient grains, topped with freshly made date sauce.. Also has weekly meal plans.

The Shady Grove– On Barton Springs. Always very busy on nice days. Veggie plate is really good. Love the chili and hippie sandwich.

El Alma 1025 Barton Springs Road- A Mexican style restaurant that is all about fresh ingredients. They have quite a couple vegan-friendly salads like the “Ensalada Callejera Jicama, cucumber, carrots and mango; marinated in Valentina chili sauce with lime” and also some verde enchiladas with Hemp seeds, tacos, and corn on the cob.

Thom’s Market– Barton Springs, A great little place to stop for essentials, salsa, frozen food, beer, and whatever you need in if you are in the area.

Chuy’s 1728 BARTON SPRINGS To me this will always be the spot where the Bush girls got busted for underage drinking but they do have veggie enchiladas and pretty good margaritas and Texas martinis. Multiple locations.

Holla Mode 1800 Barton Springs Road This trailer serves up Thai style ice cream. The coconut version costs a dollar more but it comes with a range of flavors and toppings like fresh fruit and Oreos.

Hugo’s 300 South Lamar. Mexican restaurant & tequila bar under condos on South Lamar. It looks like the vegetable enchiladas and the portabella fajitas could both be vegan sans cheese.

The Connection -Lamar Union by the Alamo. Pizza places with vegan cheese.

Eberly 615 South Lamar. This gorgeous bar and farm to table style restaurants has a couple vegetable dishes on their seasonal dinner menu and the bar has vegetable pizzas with no cheese.

The Odd Duck 1201 South Lamar One of the most popular foodie restaurants in tow, They have a vegan menu if you ask.

Uchi– South Lamar. Known as the best restaurant in Austin. Maybe the world. Texas sushi. They will accommodate vegans. Expensive. Long wait.

Sazon – 1816 S. Lamar Interior Mexican food. Their menu doesn’t really have anything vegan as is but they will make you excellent tacos or enchiladas.

Mattie’s at Green Pastures 811 W Live Oak St. A beautiful historic house with peacocks has also been different restaurants over the years. The current iteration “Mattie’s” has some dinner options like Basmati Rice Bowl and Crispy Cauliflower (with Thai bird chile, tamarind bbq sauce, scallions) that look like they could be vegan or veganized but I haven’t confirmed yet.

Nadamoo Scoop Shop 1701 South Lamar Blvd You can get the retail flavors on a cone and cover it with all sorts of toppings and also be the first to try their in-house flavors. There is also an outpost of Plow Burger for Beyond Burgers and fries with your milkshake.

Super Thai 2024 S Lamar The Veggie Supreme is vegan.

Loro 2115 South Lamar Blvd. Tyson Cole from Uchi opened up this Asian smokehouse with a few vegan-friendly items like a Szechuan tofu bowl, chips and dip, snap peas (no sauce), kale salad (notify bartender), coconut rice, sweet corn (no miso cream)

Papalote Taco House – 2803 S Lamar Blvd Hongos and Epazote Taco and all sorts of interesting things are on this menu, they told me vegan options include “tlacoyo, huarache and sope w/any veggie filling and w/out cheese hongos y epazote, guacamole and we also have tortas de coliflor but they have parmesan” and they use 100% vegetable oil. They have a ton of vegetable options (cactus, zucchini, poblanos peppers, potato, onion, mushrooms, green beans, jalapeños, avocado tomato, tomatillos and chips) for their breakfast tacos too.

Black Sheep Lodge– 2108 Lamar, I love the sweet potato fries, they also have veggie burgers and a portabella sandwich and fried jalapeño strips breaded in cornmeal that is delicious. and tater tots. and really good beer. open til midnight and 1 on Saturday.

Sundaze – 2323 South Lamar, fast-food style trailer with chicken and fake chicken for vegans. Wheat meat chicken sandwich, seitan nuggets, and all vegan sides like coleslaw, fries, and a house salad. All the dipping sauces are vegan-friendly too. Menu. All vegan location in possum park.

El Naranjo 2717 S Lamar Blvd If you are looking for authentic Oaxacan mole you can get it here along with handmade tortillas. And you can put together a nice brunch from sides.

The Soup Peddler–  They have delicious vegan soup, I especially love the Green Goddess. and fantastic juices and smoothies. There is one on Manchaca and Lamar and a second on 501 West Mary.

Lick– 2032 S. Lamar 363-5622 Local inspired gourmet ice cream parlor with coconut based vegan options like spicy coconut peanut. Here is my review. Sunday–Thursday, 12:30–10pm; Friday–Saturday, 12:30–11:30pm

Hunan Lion 4006 S LAMAR BLVD in the shopping center with Sprouts and Freebirds across the street from Wheatsville. You can put tofu in pretty much any of their dishes like  Kung Pao, Sweet and Sour, and orange sauce. And you can order online and they deliver.

Radio– 4204 Menchaca Road Delicious Stumptown Coffee with several vegan milks at this coffee shop that turns into a bar as the day goes on. The best part is that one of my favorite taco trailers Veracruz all natural lives on the patio. Although it’s mostly an omni taco spot the beans are vegan and the homemade tortillas and salsa with chunks of avocado are delicious. They also have a vegetable taco that’s ok.

Cazamance 1102 E Cesar Chavez & Cazamance Cafe 96 Rainey Street- Senegal inspired trailer on at Radio Coffee. Items marked vegetarian include delicious sounding salads, wraps, and veggie burger. Cazamance open 6pm – 1:30am every day. The cafe is open 11am – 3pm M-F

The Live Oak Market– 4410 Menchaca Rd This little convenience store has pretty much everything I could ever want in a convenience store, Nadamoo ice cream, Go Max Go candy bars, coconut water, soy creamer, delicious local beers, noodle bowls.

The Funkadelic Brunch 4715 South Lamar Sunset Valley. This brunch spot is open every day from 7am to 3:30 and they have multiple vegan options including tofu scramble, soyrizo, and vegan cheese. All of their bread is vegan except for the challah and they will happily veganize any menu item.

Little Thai Food -1209 S. First. All the standard Thai dishes and they will make it vegan if you ask. I adore the Tom Kha soup. open 11-9

El Mercado 1302 South First multiple locations also on Burnet and Lavaca This Mexican restaurant has an easily veganizable vegetarian section and great margaritas. Open until 11 on the weekend

Conscious Cravings– 1311 S 1st St trailer vegan trailer with lots of really fantastic wraps, sandwiches, salads, and smoothies. I  love the Spicy Chickpea but the Seitan Chimichurri, Portabella Mushroom, and Blackened Tofu are all close behind. Open 11-8. My Review There are multiple locations now, the other is in the Mueller Development. And you can get it delivered by Favor or Prime Now.

Sway-1417 South 1st Street From the folks behind La Condesa Sway is an upscale Australian style Thai restaurant. Communal seating. Lots of vegan options and the staff has ingredient lists for everything. It is spicier than your average American Thai place. Sunday – Wednesday 11am – 10pm Thursday – Saturday 11am – 11pm

Elizabeth Street Cafe 1501 S 1st St French Vietnamese Cafe The former home of Bouldin Creek has been completely transformed into a fancy Vietnamese place. They have vegan pho, vermicelli, spring rolls and a well-trained staff who can answer all your ingredient questions. Sadly none of the beautiful desserts are vegan anytime I’ve gone.

Possum Pizza Oltorf & South 1st. Vegan Pizza Truck. Mac and Cheese Pizza! Philly Seitan Pizza! Spicy Mozzarella sticks! They also have pizza by the slice, check IG for specials.

BBQ Revolution New location at 510 W Oltorf.  vegan barbecue smoked to perfection.  Follow FB or IG to find if they are open.

Thrice & Thai Fresh -909 W Mary St open 11-9 Thai restaurant and coffee shop that has a large assortment of vegan offerings including the occasional croissant on some Saturday mornings. They also have a full case of vegan ice cream with all sorts of fun flavors.

Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse– South 1st The tofu scramble is next level. You can get it in anything on the menu including the omelet which is fabulous. Also try with the vegan queso, the homemade veggie chorizo, and the potato hash cake. The breakfast tacos are really good. Ask for the special tea menu. They also have fantastic baked goods from Happy Vegan Baker and Capital City Bakery.

Lenoir – South 1st, make reservations and let them know you are vegan at this beautiful little farm to table restaurant on south first.

Mellizoz – (Formerly Izzoz) 1503 S. FIRST ST. Potatoes, beans, and portabellos are all vegan at this gourmet taco trailer open 7 days a week

Torchy’s– Multiple locations on South 1st and throughout town. The beans aren’t vegan but the rice, tortillas, vegetables, poblanos, and avocado (without cheese) are along with the flour and corn tortillas. They use margarine to make their vegetables but it isn’t vegan marg. I wouldn’t recommend going here at all.

Polvos– South 1st. Tacos, enchiladas (hold the cheese), and burritos. My favorite salsa in town. Sometimes it can be difficult to order here but it is worth it. The breakfast tacos on the very back bottom of the menu are a great deal. The potato flautas can be vegan and you can order the veg enchiladas. You can choose from a list of different things to make the taco of your dreams. Here are some pics

Naan Sequitur 601 West Live Oak Street Homemade Naan sandwiches including the vegan fried eggplant po’boy which has smoked fried eggplant, brussels sprouts slaw, vegan kimchi and sriracha aioli and another one with bulgolgi style shitake mushrooms.

Bananarchy on South 1st & Live Oak. The greatest frozen banana stand in the world. M-Sat 12-9. Only open in warm weather.

Four Brothers on South First and Live Oak. Venezuelan food truck with vegan options including a vegan Arepa (black beans, sweet fried plantains & avocado), Mandocas (sweet cornmeal fritters) and Patacon (fried green plantain sandwich with black beans and avocado) Here is my review 

The Vegan Yacht–at The Four Five 5212 Manchaca Road. I love the Freeto Burritos at this all vegan trailer, it’s tempeh chili, organic corn chips, avocado, and vegan cheese in a grilled burrito. You can get it “Supreemo” style where they add romaine and onion. They also have a Freeto Pie, a buffalo burrito, mock chick’n salad and more.  Open Daily except for Mondays. Check their facebook for current news.

Tuk Tuk 5517 Manchaca Rd. This vegan-friendly Thai restaurant is delicious and they even have a little market inside with rice noodles and Thai soy sauce so you don’t have to drive up north. You can order online and they deliver.

Atia’s Kitchen 7800 South 1st St Samosas, roti, and a vegan special of the day.

La Flor– South 1st almost to Stassney on the east side of the street. Traditional Taco trailer with refried beans, potatoes, and nopalitos on the freshest tortillas in town. Recently I have heard conflicting information about the beans so check with who is making it.

Revolution Vegan Kitchen Thicket Food Park 7800 S. 1st Street. Tacos, burgers, curly fries, burgers and other plates at this food trailer on the south west side. Here is my review 

Hawaii Nei Cafe Thicket Food Park 7800 S 1st St, has a vegan Tofu & Baby Broccoli poke bowl and you can also order spiced pineapple.

Lucky Robot– 1303 South Congress 11-10 Weekdays 10-10 Japanese style tacos and entrees and make your own bowls. Computer ordering. Sat & Sun

The Flying Carpet– 504 W. Oltorf This former trailer kept expanding until it became a restaurant. They still have items like “The Sleek Vegan” Grilled Eggplant, Falafel Crumble, Tomato Sauce, & Greens on a piece of Flat Bread for $6.00. But you can also preorder some Moroccan Soul Food in advance, you show up 24 hours later to a family style meal of vegetable tagine. Open Mon-Sat Dinner 6-10.

Gueros– South Congress. Ask for the vegan menu which has an al pastor among other delicious things. They have vegan queso! Get a margarita (or several) while you wait. Open until 11 Thur-Sun

Home Slice– South Congress Pizza is vegan if you hold the cheese. Also the garlic knots.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar 1400 South Congress – Impossible burger available on a vegan wheat bun. The line can be long. There are multiple locations now at the Triangle, on Anderson, and in Round Rock.

MamboBerry– 801 Barton Springs trailer park (across from Palmer Events Center). Has tamales and a vegan egg salad sandwich. Review here

FreeBird- South Congress. Multiple locations throughout the region. Very large burritos. Even the small is huge. You can order online. All the beans, vegetables, and tortillas are vegan and they have tempeh calibicitas.

Vinaigrette – 2201 College Ave just off South Congress. This all salad place was very accommodating to my vegan needs. I especially loved their cocktail bar (called the salad bar) which had cocktails like the FIERY LION Fresh-pressed orange, turmeric root, Plymouth Gin, Gran Marnier and a splash of homemade grenadine. They also veganized the Kale nachos for me. The interior is beautiful and airy.

Habana- 2728 South Congress. vegetarian-friendly Cuban food and delicious tropical cocktails. I love this place! You can even sit in a little tiki hut. Here is a list of of what is vegan. I love the monfongo and the quinbombo. and the servers have always seemed very knowledgeable. Open until 11 Fri & Sat

Sage Cafe 2810 South Congress outside the Great Outdoors nursery. Tofu Black bean burrito and smoothies.

Poke-Poke 3100 South Congress Build your own poke bowl with spicy tofu option. You can get a bed of kale too or a kale salad instead. They also have acai bowls.

A Taste of Ethiopia 3801 S. Congress Ave This very popular Pflugerville Ethiopian restaurant is now one South Congress as well.

Li’l Nonna’s – 440 E. St. Elmo Rd This pizza trailer in the back of the coffee shop / bar The Buzz Mill has vegan pizza and toppings, house made vegan cheese and then also dairy cheese. They have happy hour slices that are a really good size portion and daily specials, follow them on instagram to see. Try the “meat out” which has Italian seitan sausage, beeteroni, and smoky tempeh. They have both New York Style and Detroit Style to chose from.

Spokesman 440 E Saint Elmo Rd Ste 2 This very interesting space is a coffee bar that also has quite a few beer taps. They also do panini sandwiches and have a chickpea salad one with vegan mayo and toasted sunflower seeds.

Soursop 440 E St. Elmo Rd, Building G-2 at St. Elmo Brewing Company the Som Tom shredded papaya salad is delicious but SPICY. The Thai influenced menu changes around besides that but they assured me there is always something vegan. The yellow curry was also really good. And the online menu has a “Tempeh-nator” sandwich with tomato “bacon” and banana ketchup.

The Loud Juice Cafe opened in the Yard at 440 East St. Elmo Rd. They have cold press juices, smoothies, wellness shots, and acai bowls

The Little Darlin’ 6507 Circle S off south congress. This bar has a huge back patio with bar games like washers and a stage. They serve the Impossible burger with fries and Mushrooms with tofu, pine nuts, eggplant, and tomato. Other vegetarian items, like the watermelon salad, could be easily veganized.

Kimchi Jon’s 3804 Woodbury Drive. Food trailer with hot Kimchi Fried Rice.

Tarbouch 534 E Oltorf St. This Lebanese grill has a vegetarian platter and a couple different wraps to eat and then you can enjoy and nice hookah. Sun-Thur 11am-9pm Fri & Sat 11-10pm

Curra’s– 614 E. Oltorf St. Great Mexican food and avocado margaritas. They have a great veggie taco plate with homemade chorizo and super fat tamales both bean and veggie. The rice is not vegan but they let you double up on the beans. Make sure you say no cheese. Open until 11 on Fri & Sat.

Taco Deli– 1500 Spyglass off Mopac and multiple locations. You see these tacos all around town but you can usually only get the vegan ones at the place, but keep your eye out, they pop up and are delicious. The dona salsa is vegan! Here is a review

Whip In– Off I-35 & Oltorf. This is a convenience store and an Indian restaurant.

Tarka- 5207 Brodie Lane, 201 University Blvd in Round Rock, and 2525 W. Anderson Lane. Indian food from the folks that originally brought us the Clay Pit. Here is a review.

Hao Hao 1901 W William Cannon Chinese and Vietnamese food with a veggie menu. Delivers in the area! I like the huge portion of Vietnamese Hot and Sour Soup and the Spicy Crispy Tofu with Broccoli especially.

Crazy Fruits – 729 E Slaughter Ln (second location 6100 E. Riverside). Mangonadas, Mexican Fruit cups, aqua frescas and more. You can also have a kid’s party there.

ZPizza– Several locations, the south is at 5701 W. Slaughter Lane but there is one at 3300 Bee Caves Road, and one in Round Rock 200 University Blvd. This pizza place has Daiya cheese, vegan meat crumbles, and gluten free crusts available.

Mangieri’s Pizza Café 5900 W. Slaughter Ln, Suite 460 and in Lakeway 2133 Lohmans Crossing Rd. Daiya Cheese and tons of veggies are available at this pizza place.

Independence Fine Foods 1807 W. Slaughter LN, SUITE 100. They have a tofu scramble with Green Chiles, Chili Roasted Cauliflower for breakfast (say no cheese) and some veggie sandwiches for lunch.

Skull and Cakebones 3991 East Hwy 290. Way out it Dripping Springs you will find this lovely bakery that has croissants, kolaches, breads, and more along with a full-service coffee shop. They have a wonderful lunch and brunch service as well.

Cool Beans–  22908 Fruth st behind the Spider House. This Mexican trailer has fresh corn tamales and tacos with homemade tortillas. Second location now on the east side. Here is my review

Milky Way Shakes – All vegan milkshake trailer outside the Spider House with house-made coconut-based ice cream and almond milks. They also have aquafaba based meringues and other fun toppings. Try the Violet Beauregarde (blueberries, meringue, candied flower) or the Oreo Borealis (mint, fudge, oreos) or build your own.

Kitchen for the Soul Spider House Cafe 2906 Fruth Street.  Arepas, Tacos, or Lettuce Wraps & Tapas. Daily specials like Mofongo & Thai Pineapple Risotto.

Always Hungry Gluten-Free Pizzas with an almond-based crust. This pescatarian trailer has a lot of healthy whole foods based vegan options.

Ramen Fukuya In the old Veggie Heaven, not actually vegan-friendly since they use egg noodles but if you are stuck there the fried rice can be made vegan.

Look Noodles and More – 1914 Guadalupe Street veggie ramen, noodle dishes, and rice dishes.

Thai, How Are You 2100 Guadalupe St. Standard Thai menu plus some Japanese options though the latter doesn’t look very vegan-friendly.

Daphne’s Mediterranean– Multiple locations including on the drag at the Dobie Mall, 2530 Guadalupe Street, 2438 West Anderson Lane, 11521 Ranch Road 620 North, 12800 Galleria Circle, 1500 South Lamar Blvd. & 1801 East 51st Street, Round Rock and more. Falafel wraps and build-a-bowl.

Teji’s Indian Restaurant. The original location is in Round Rock. Some people say it’s the best Biryani in Texas, others say it’s fast-food style. This sounds like a Zagat review, my apologies, I thought it was good Indian take out.

Hai Kai Multiple Locations. Vietnamese, pho, and noodle dishes. UPDATE 10/29/2014! Just because it’s on the vegetarian menu does not mean it’s vegetarian according to a waitress they use fish sauce, pork, and beef broth while cooking the “vegetarian” options.

Goodalls Kitchen and Bar 1900 Rio Grande Street Vegan Items are marked at this sophisticated restaurant in the bottom of a mansion with craft cocktails. It seems from the reviews this place is more about atmosphere than it’s expensive food but sometimes you gotta get fancy!

MooJo – 2322 Guadalupe Street, Ice cream sandwiches with rotating flavors from local brand Nadamoo. The chocolate chip and peanut butter cookie are vegan. They also have toppings and are open late. 30 Minutes Free Parking @ the San Antonio Garage — 2420 San Antonio Street

Ice Scrapers – 411 W 23rd St. Dairy free coconut-based ice cream in either vanilla, chocolate, or coffee. Rolled Thai-style and then topped with Oreos, coconut, banana, chia seeds etc. They also have New Orleans style snoballs.

Austin’s Pizza 2324 Guadalupe (Multiple locations in every part of town) Follow your heart vegan cheese can be added to any pizza.

Chilaquil at Space 24 Twenty has a vegan bowl, the Chilango bowl, with salsa verde, nopalitos, and avocado.

Steel City Pops 3001 Guadalupe All natural real fruit popsicles made with cane sugar.

Korean Komfort 3423 Guadalupe St (restaurant)/ 2512 Rio Grande (trailer) This restaurant has vegan Kimchi Fried Rice and Tofu BiBimBop meals (without egg). The Kimchi BB Balls are vegetarian. Here is my early review

The Pizza Press 404 W 26th St. This California chain has Dayia cheese available and both the regular and gluten-free crusts are vegan.

Kerbey Lane– multiple locations. 24-hour diner. Vegan pancakes. tacos. sweet potato fries. Tacos. I am not a fan of their homemade “Soysauge” but almost everything else is good enough diner food. I especially love that they bring vegan butter with the pancakes.

Tom’s Tabooley– Almost everything here is vegan and well labeled. The best part is that they send their wraps to stores all over town.

Poké Bowl – Build your own poke bowl with tofu option.

Thai Kitchen– multiple locations. Open til midnight on weekdays and midnight on the weekend at the Guadalupe location but the others close earlier. Typical Thai. Green Curry is popular.

Trudy’s – 409 West 30th Street and multiple locations Gregory Rankin says to try the portobello fajitas at Trudy’s. Just tell them “no dairy anywhere on the plate”, I have also had the breakfast tacos and the enchiladas. Open until 2am

Guac-N-Roll- moving truck that’s either parked outside of Dane’s Body Shop at 4227 Guadalupe & third and Guadalupe. Fancy made to order nontraditional guacamoles plus beet salad, posole, and other stuff. All vegetarian and vegan-friendly.

Food Heads– off the drag on 34th. Lunch spot, sandwiches and salads. open until 4pm

Zen– 3423 Guadalupe. Multiple locations. Japanese healthy fast food. There is no stock in the sauces but there is sugar in some. The ginger-lime & the dynamite should be safe.

Sip Pho – 512 West 29th Street Vietnamese pho, and other items from the same folks behind Pho Please.

Wheatsville– Don’t miss Texas’ only food co-op! They have an amazing deli with popcorn tofu po’boys, vegan mac & cheese, frito pie (with nutritional yeast), and almost every vegan product you could ever dream of. Here are some of my favorite local products.

Boomarangs– Curry Hand pies. They are also available in different shops around town.

The Parlor– 4301 Guadalupe St vegan pizza with vegan cheese and veg sausage and vegan pepperoni in a dive bar. m-f open til midnight. 1am sat

Mezze Me 4700 Guadalupe St W, # 9. Fast Mediterranean. Order a bowl with either greens, grains, rice, or a pita and then top with falafel and mezzes like red pepper hummus and black-eyed peas. Then add toppings like sumac onion with parsley or kalamata olives.

Veracruz All Natural– Cesar Chavez & Chalmers. Food cart with super fresh fruit, agua frescas, shaved ice. You can get fruit Mexican style with chile powder on it. They also have awesome breakfast tacos with potatoes, beans, spinach, nopales, and avocado. Multiple locations including is South Austin and Round Rock.

Oseyo 1628 East Cesar Chavez Korean restaurant with a couple small plates, a Japchae noodle dish, and grilled mushrooms all marked as vegan. They can also make the bibimbap vegan on request.

Mission Dogs 1701 E. Cesar Chavez. Hot dog spot will exchange a vegan dog for any of their menu items like the “Jeepney” which has sweet & sour green papaya slaw & spicy plantain ketchup. They also have Hampton Creek vegan mayo and will do vegan garlic fries!

Juniper 2400 E Cesar Chavez St #304. Classy Italian restaurants with a vegetarian menu with vegan pasta along with vegetable dishes.

Mr. Natural– 1901 E. Cesar Chavez another location on South Lamar. Healthy style Mexican food. A full range of juices. Try the tofu migas for breakfast. The lunch special is cafeteria-style ordering otherwise grab a menu, pay, and take a number.

Capital City Bakery–  2211 E. Cesar Chavez. The best vegan baked goods in town. For real. Apple Pie ala mode Peanut Butter Crunch cupcakes this is where it’s at.

Bruja’s Brew Kombucha 2324 E. Cesar Chavez St Kombucha drinks, shots, and seasonal vegan small plates like a grilled cheese sandwich with kale chips, pumpkin spice popcorn, and gazpacho.

Counter Culture– 2337 East Cesar Chavez Street All vegan diner with homemade buffalo mac and cheese balls, soul food burrito, and mushroom beet burger and lots of raw and engine 2 friendly items. Raw style desserts. I love their weekend brunch. Open until 10pm. Weekly specials on facebook.

Curcuma– Healthy bowls and Golden Mylk will keep you coming back to this well-regarded trailer.

The Vegan Nom 2324 East Cesar Chavez. The Best Vegan Tacos, I love the Migas, the Three Amigos, and the Birdie Sanders. Sometimes they have barbecued seitan with jalapeno mac and cheese on special and it’s one of my favorite tacos in the world. Check their facebook and instagram for specials and hours.  My review

Sawyer & Co – 4827 E Cesar Chavez Fried Eggplant Muffaletta sandwich (hold the cheese) and a veggie tray.

Launderette 2115 Holly St. This trendy east side restaurant has a Sunshine bowl (turmeric hummus, sprouted beans, pickled beet, quinoa, butternut squash, tahini dressing) at lunch, otherwise, you probably have to get the veggie sides without their fancy cheeses.

Grizzeldas 105 Tillery  Super cute trendy Mexican restaurant with a vegetable mole taco option and some sides that could be veganized. Watch out the guacamole has bacon (gross)

Native Grocery 705 Tillery St This wine shop has breakfast tacos with tons of vegetable options from asparagus to zucchini.

Gourmands– 2316 Webberville Road. A pub with a patio and Ping Pong. Black Bean soup, hummus plate, veggie sandwich. Kitchen open until midnight.

North Door Pizza – 502 Brushy St. Teese cheese is available for your hand-tossed pizza at this venue on the east side. They also have a GF crust. Late-night mini pizzas until 3am on the Friday and Saturday.

Native – 807 E 4th St. This limestone remodeled hotel has a restaurant & bar has vegan options like bowls and kale.

Wright Brother’s Brew & Brew. San Marcos & 5th just east of the highway. This coffee shop carries Rosen’s Bagels for breakfast and lunch. The bagels are vegan and my favorite in town & they have vegan cream cheese and hummus.

Willow & Co 908 East 5th Street. Juice and Smoothie shop with some toast options and salads to go. You can get free parking at Corazon Garage in the 501 Studios and they will validate.

Yellow Jacket Social Club 1704 East 5th. They have a tofu scramble for brunch on the weekends. Regularly they also have a hummus plate, some salads and perhaps can veganize some other dishes.

Pueblo Viejo– 901 E. Sixth Street, just next to the antique shop building across from El Milagro. According to yelp, they have some of the best vegan tacos in town. Open late on the weekends.

Gelateria Gemelli 1009 East 6th Street The sorbetto’s are vegan and possibly other things on this seasonally changing menu.

Ah Sing Den 1100 E 6th St Cocktail bar with vegan snacks and entres marked on their menu including Curried Sweet Potato hash at brunch, Thai Curry Udon, and a Thai Banana Split.

Little Big Burger 1648 East Sixth Street the Portland-based burger chain has a house-made vegan burger but the bun appears to not be vegan.

Domo Alley-Gato 1600 East Sixth. From the team behind Ramen Tatsuya this cat themed Japanese curry house and bar has two vegan curries on the menu and all the atmosphere.

Spicy Boys 1701 East Sixth Street. This trailer at Zilker’s brewing is by the same people who do Soursop in South Austin. Although the focus is chicken wings they have cauliflower wings as an alternative and tempeh you can sub in for sandwiches and they have Som Tam and a vegan slaw.

Troublemaker 1209 East 7th St. Bar and Record store with California style burritos including an Impossible chorizo option.

HapPea Vegans 1403 East 7th St at the Outpost Food Park. Outrageously good southern comfort and Asian fusion. Ordering them is very tricky and sells out fast. Follow them on instagram and check back regularly to see changing menus and ordering windows. Some of their meats and other products are available at Rabbit Food Grocery.

Nasha 1614 East 7th. Finally an Indian Mexican fusion place on the east side that’s open late. They have tofu vegan tacos and vegan Indian section with favorites like Channa Masala and Aloo Gobi.

Flyrite 2129 E 7th St This drive-thru has a vegan burger, a kale slaw, and a veggie wrap, everything is marked vegan

Suerte 1800 East 6th Street This Oaxacan-style Mexican spot with Texas ingredients has a seasonally changing menu that will always accommodate vegans. I’ve had sunchoke tamales, kale tostadas, beets, carrot mole dishes and all sorts of truly amazing meals. PROTIP- order something from the vegetables menu and and ask for a side or tortillas and then a salsa or mole from another dish that appeals to you and make your own tacos. Truly Bliss.

Baton Creole at The White Horse on Comal and 5th St. Vegan Jambalaya on a stick with cajun tofu and other vegan specials at this trailer that’s open until 3am on the weekend.

Food truck with a variety of vegan waffles with fried “Chicon” and other specials like “Soul Falafel”, Three Green Medley, and Oven Baked Sweet Potato w/Vegan Bacon. If you are feel like you are missing something on your vegan diet, this is the place to go!

Takoba- 1411 E 7th St trendy Mexican restaurant with a nice patio. The two vegetarian items are marked. The rice has chicken stock. Open until midnight or 1am.

Hay Elotes 2214 East 7th. Mexican smoothies and Epic fruit cups along with Chamoyada, Mangonada, & Shave Ice. Lots of pictures for people that don’t speak Spanish.

Trill Taqueria 2410 E 7th St Although this taco trailer has smoked meats, they also have a huge variety of changing creative vegetable based tacos on handmade tortillas. The offerings are based on what’s at the farmer’s market so you could end up with tacos ike fried brussels sprouts with cilantro-lime vinaigrette, black beans, and orange supremes or Fave Leaves tempura with black beans.

Kinda Tropical 3501 E 7th St This bodega also has a restaurant for breakfast they have an avocado toast and veggie toast, lunch with rotating specials of veggies and salads along with the Rainbow Rice Bowl (rice with kale cucumber, radish, cabbage, carrots, herbs and gomasio). You can add a side of fried sweet plantains, rice, beans, yucca fries, or toasted seaweed.

Rio Rita- 12th & Chicon coffee shop and bar with infused Tito’s drinks, some different snack options

Saigon Le Vendeur Tofu bahn mi, tofu vermicelli bowl, and tofu spring rolls are all on the menu and are vegan if you ask for no fish sauce.

Sa-Tén – 916 Springdale Rd Coffeeshop with plant-milks. The restaurant also has a Japanese curry that can be made vegan.

The Juice Well 1309 Rosewood Ave. Open for lunch Tues- Sun. Vegan Juices and smoothies, plus, vegan Banh Mi sandwiches, veggie patty sandwiches, house salads and tacos at this cart.

Old Thousand 1000 E 11th St, Austin open 5-10 This trendy Chinese restaurant has confirmed vegan options including the pickles, cucmber salad, kung pao cauliflower, bok choy, ma po eggplant and gai lan.  Dishes which can be modified vegan include the sunchoke fried rice, the tea egg salad, and ma po dofu.

Nissi VegMex Vegan Mexican Cuisine  1106 E. 11th street on the east side at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard trailer park. An all vegan Mexican spot which has plates of tacos, burritos, taquitos filled with options like al pastor or fajitas and all of your other favorites served with rice beans. I think their queso might be the best in town!

Red Wraps Haddie’s food court on 12th and Chicon Their feature item is a vegan ancient Turkish dish with bulgur wheat called the Red Wrap.

Dear Diary Coffeehouse – 1212 Chicon Street Unit 103 This coffeeshop has all the standard offerings with oat, soy, and almond milk along with coldbrew, wine, beer, along with treats like Celeste’s Best cookies and other treats like Banana Bread, Chocolate donuts and other baked goods from Wheatsville, and other snacks.

Nixta Taqueria 2512 E 12th St Handmade corn tortillas are created over a 12 hour process and some vegan options like a Beet “Tartare” Tostada and changing seasonal vegetable tacos.

Eastside Pies – Multiple locations. 1401 Rosewood Ave, 5312 Airport, 1809 1 W Anderson, The crust, both regular and GF and garlic knots are completely vegan. The bases are as well you can get hummus, black bean, marinara, spinach curry, tomatillo, chimichurri, or pesto even the special pestos are vegan! The only base that isn’t is the ricotta cheese. The breaded eggplant is not vegan but there is a wide range of fun toppings like sweet potatoes, avocado, Habañeros and Spicy Slaw. Follow your heart cheese.

El Chile– 1809 Manor Road. This Mexican restaurant has tons of veggies in their enchiladas and puffy tacos along with some fabulous margaritas. The puffy tacos are no longer on the menu but you can still order them.

Yuyo 1900 Manor Road. A Peruvian restaurant with lots of vegetable items that can be veganized like Vegetales a la Brasa (grilled bok choy / portabello / squash / japanese sweet potato / fennel purée / andean chimichurri) or Ensalada de Tomates (heirloom tomatoes / avocado purée /salsa criolla)

Abo Youssef – 2101 Manor Road. Mediterranean cart with Falafel & Gardenia Plate, Baba Ghanouj, hummus, falafel, and all the standard offerings.

Thai Thani 2101 Manor Rd This Thai cart delivers. They make everything from scratch and the menu changes but they sound like they’d be very accommodating. And they are open until 10 pm.

Patrizi’s Italian Restaurant 2307 Manor Rd, inside the Vortex theater. This Italian spot will make you a vegan dish but their housemade pasta has egg.

Dai Due 2406 This really popular “Butcher shop” has a vegetable plate with kimchi and pickled veggies if you end up going…to a butcher shop

Austin Daily Press– 1900 E. MLK. and on East Cesar Chavez. This sandwich shop has one vegan torta that sounds really good, Pickled Green Mango, Coconut Braised Kale, Ginger Peanut Sauce, Toasted Peanuts, Red Cabbage Salad And they have tempeh and vegetable tapas.

The Halal Corner 1200 Barbara Jordan Blvd Ste The vegetarian section of the menu has a Vegan Shwarma, Vegan Gyros, along with standard falafel and eggplant wraps.

Pokeatery Another California chain that has opened up in the Mueller development. This poke spot’s menu has customizable bowls where you pick your base like rice or greens, add your tofu for protein, then choose a sauce and loads of toppings like avocado, edamame, fried garlic or a bunch of other things.

Colleen’s Kitchen 1911 Aldrich Street, Suite 100. This Southern Style restaurant has vegan options marked like a farfalle succotash, a quinoa salad, and orange roasted beets. Nice bar. Modern decor.

Bao’d Up 1911 Aldrich Street Ste. in Muller. Dumpling spot with veganizable Veggie Bao, Fried Tofu GuaBao (Taiwanese Hamburgers), and fries. UPDATE 5/24/2018 They are back to being vegan friendly after a foray into nonvegan dough.

Fresh off the Truck- 4209 Airport. An Asian fusion truck with lots of different bahn mi sandwiches and even different kinds of fried potatoes like Korokke which is described as a “Japanese fried potato curry croquette” The monk sandwich looks like it could be vegan without the butter sauce, I’m looking into it but if you know, leave me a comment!

Tyson’s Tacos 4905 Airport Blvd Mon-Sat Make your own tacos with black beans, vegan chorizo, and guacamole. 6 am – 8:30 pm

Contigo 2027 Anchor Lane This bar out in the Mueller is super popular with Austin foodies. Their menu changes daily but usually they are happy to veganize their small plates for you. They have items like Olives, Smoked Shitakes, and Brussels sprouts with capers and pine nuts. Open pretty late.

Sweet Ritual 4631 Airport Blvd you will find a magical vegan ice cream parlor with waffle cones, caramel sauce, crazy specials, and sundaes galore. They even have gluten free options and are so so vegan that you don’t have to worry for one second about eating something weird.

Yummi Joy 4631 Airport Blvd Candy store with vegan candies, coffee, 12 flavors of Sweet Ritual ice cream, fudge, and vegan macarons.

The Grand Social Club & Billiards Room. 4631 Airport Blvd. This bar has vegan sriracha tofu tacos, just say plain sriracha no mayo. You can also just get the fried tofu appetizer, it looks delicious.

Bun Belly 5001 Airport Blvd Mostly Vietnamese with a bit of Asian fusion too. Items that can be made vegan items have a star by them including salt and pepper tofu, spring rolls, pad thai, Vietnamese Crepe, and Buddha Delight. Fancy cocktails too.

Kome Sushi Kitchen– 4917 Airport Blvd. Emma who is vegan and works at Kome made a wonderful list and they also said they have vegan specials sometimes with local ingredients. Here are the menu items Edamame, Hiyayakko (no bonito), Kome Salad (no anchovies), Yaki onigiri (no sauce), Rice, pickles, Kikkoman Soy sauce, tamari, mango sauce, Mango/avocado roll, Veggie roll, Oshinko roll, Kanpyo roll, Natto roll, Avocado nigiri, Asparagus nigiri, yamagobo. Closed Sunday. At lunch they have vegan ramen.

Turntable Eatery– 5111 Airpot Blvd They have a vegan specialty pizza on the menu: The M.C. has tomato sauce, vegan cheese, basil, oregano, and olive oil.

Fruitealicious 6929 AIRPORT BLVD, STE #110, This Boba Tea spot has coconut and soy options for their milk teas, and different bobas, pops, jellies, and healthy mixins.

Plow Burger 1505 Town Creek DR.  Inside the BuzzMill Coffeehouse. They serve the beyond burger with very creative weekly topping specials, fries, and Nadamoo shakes. You can also find their sandwiches wrapped to-go around town. 11-11 Order at the Buzzmill Counter. Second Location at the Flag Store on 45th& Duval.

Taco Joint– 134 E Riverside Dr. Breakfast and Lunch Tacos, vegan section of the taco menu and a vegan torta with a gardenburger.

The Mission Burrito -1729 E. Riverside on the corner of Parker Ln. San Francisco style burritos with Carne Asada, Pollo Asado, Al Pastor, and weekly specials like banana blossom fried fish! All topped with credo queso and sour cream.

Orange Leaf- Frozen Yogurt place. The orange and pineapple are both vegan as are some of the toppings.

Java Noodles– 2400 E Oltorf St south and east of the river. Indonesian. Most items are made with fish sauce that can’t be removed. The pad thai can be made vegan along with the tofu satay and tofu spring rolls but most of the rest of the menu items in the “vegetarian’ section are not actually vegetarian. They do have tempeh!

Dis Fruta – 3504 Burleson Rd. Mexican Snow cones, Fruit Cups, Mangonadas, and Agua Frescas.

Cornucopia Popcorn, 3211 Red River. gourmet popcorn. I like the green chile one best but dill pickle is their most popular. They have twitter specials too.

Yoshi Ramen 3320 Harmon Ave (Between I-35 and Red River on the ground floor of The Marq). This ramen restaurant from the owners of Veggie Heaven has two kinds of vegan ramen, a shoyu based and a soy milk based. They also have a handful of apps like gyoza and a vegan ramen burger.

Austin Taco Joint 2807 San Jacinto Tacos and Tortas made with Gardenburgers. Regular Taco fixins too.

Russell’s Bistro 1601 W 38TH ST, Ask for their vegan menu which includes fresh a pasta dish, nachos, a BLT and more. They told me on 8/16/2017 they are soon adding daytime and brunch options as well.

Mother’s Cafe – If you loved vegetarian cuisine in the 90s you will love Mother’s, imagine lots of brown rice and sprouts. Their veggie burger is very popular as is their cashew tahini dressing.

Zucchini Kill Bakery  701 E 53rd ST. SUITE C at Possum Park. Brick and mortar vegan bakery with house-made Twinkies, cupcakes, doughnuts. Everything is gluten-free & soy free. You can also pick up their treats at Counter Culture and the Buzzmill. 10-percent discount to musicians traveling through Austin.

Wasota Vegan Paradise  701 East 53rd Street at Possum Park. Beloved by all, Wasota Vegan Paradise lives up to the name, especially if your idea of paradise includes Akara and fried plantains. In this newest incarnation, they also have oil-free options.

Cosmos Kitchen 701 East 53rd at Possum Park. Street tacos made from vegan bistec, al pastor, sirloin, and soyrizo. Some GF and SF options.

ASTI Trattoria– The manager at this fantastic Italian place is one of the nicest people I ever met when she heard we didn’t have a great experience she invited us back to try all the vegan items and we did. From the truffle white bean dip to the pesto pizza to the artichoke risotto it was all amazing. Closed Sunday and no lunch Saturday, make a reservation.

Uncle Nicky’s 4222 Duval St – North Italian cafe with handmade Pane Tostato sandwiches like Marinated zucchini, garbanzo spread, mint, and lemon and other focaccia sandwiches and bites. Vegan options marked.

Titaya’s Thai– The most vegan-friendly Thai place in town, it was recently closed for a while as the fixed up the interior but they are back in business. Pretty tasty That food. open until 10 pm. closed between lunch and dinner.

Nervous Charlie’s on 5501 North Lamar has bagels and vegan cream cheese and soy milk for coffee. Hello!

Biscuits and Groovy 5015 Duval St, breakfast burritos, biscuits and gravy, and sandwiches open 7-2 thur-sun… or so they say…they tend to run out of stuff on weekends. Everything on the menu can be made vegan so you can get biscuits topped with tofu scramble, bacon, sausage, daiya cheese and gravy. And maybe even a vegetable if you are feeling it.

Tso Delivery – 3909 North Interstate 35, E-5 This Chinese American restaurant is delivery and carryout only. You order online. Almost all dishes can be customized to have tofu instead of meat and dairy free.

Taj Palace 6700 Middle Fiskville Rd off IH-35 by Highland Mall. Indian Buffet that is mostly just vegetarian-friendly but you can ask them to make your dishes with no ghee.

Vivo– 6406 N I 35 Ste 2343. Enchiladas, tacos, rice, and beans. Awesome Puffy Tacos and cocktails. Open until 10 or 10:30

Pacos Tacos– 1304 E. 51st A flour corn hybrid tortilla! Vegan breakfast taco options include black beans, vegan chorizo, spinach, mushrooms, and jalapenos. They even sell their salsa by the gallon. Tuesday-Sunday open for Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner

Xian Sushi and Noodle Handmade to order noodles! The plain ones are usually vegan but occasionally mixed with egg whites so ask. Soon they will be selling spinach noodles too which will be 100% vegan. Along with the vegetable noodle soup, they also have a variety of salads.

You can become an owner of this local pub but even if you don’t enjoy their local beers and vegan-friendly pub menu. Vigilante Gaming Bar 7010 Easy Wind Drive, Ste 150  This is a bar set up for boardgame play, you can play the games they have or bring your own. Vegan options on the menu include a bell pepper sushi roll, edamame, falafel sliders, falafel bites, and samosa croquettes.

Fat Cats Organic Coffee & Desserts 7020 Easy Wind Dr, Ste 140  This all vegan coffee shop has a full range of espresso, tea, milkshake, and other drinks (with 7 different types of milk!) along with vegan baked goods, waffles, ice cream, and more.

Chago’s Puerto Rican Grill 7301 North Lamar Blvd The Paella Vegetariana has white rice cooked in coconut milk with eggplant, chick peas, black beans, peppers, onions, tomatoes, olives, ripe plantains with tostones and a side salad. Just ask them to leave off the cheese.

Balkan Cafe and Grill  11800 N Lamar Blvd They have a homemade red pepper tomato soup with ajvar and other Balkan condiments and homemade bread. Having a Serbian owner, you can be assured that there is also a full bar.

La Casa Chapala 3010 Anderson at Shoal Creek by Nomadic Notions Bead Store. Interior Mexican cuisine with table side salsa and guacamole service. Vegetarian menu that can be veganized by removing cheese, the black beans are vegan but not the charro beans. Danielle says the spinach enchiladas are her favorite. A second location on San Jacinto downtown. I want to go!

Citizen Eatery  5011 Burnet Rd transformed from vegetarian to 100% vegan in October 2018. This cafe and bar in north Austin has all-day breakfast, a bar with cocktails made from cold-pressed juices and tea infusions, and a lunch and dinner menu that is super GF friendly.

Dip Dip Dip -7301 Burnet Rd Ste 101, Hot Pot / Shabu-shabu where you cook your veggies in one of 3 different broths, dip into sauce and eat over rice.  Vegan employee says “We take dietary restrictions super seriously and you can definitely get a great meal. We have veganized versions of our dips, 3 vegan broths, 2 kinds of tofu, a veggie “meat” slice called Konnyaku, 2 kinds of noodles, and rotating selections of local veggies, at least 3 options at a time”. Highly recommend and it’s easy to eat with nonvegans because everyone gets their own broth.

Sarovar – 8440 Burnet Rd Restaurant that has dishes from all over India and also some Indo Chinese. Buffet at lunch. open until 10 on weekdays and 11 Friday and Saturday.

Sarah’s Mediterranean Restaurant– 5222 Burnet Rd My friend told me this is where to find the best falafel and hummus in town and I have to agree, it is so good! They also have a market where you can pick up all sorts of fun stuff. Mon – Sat 10:00 AM – 9 PM / Sun Closed

Yard Bar – This super dog-friendly bar has a huge patio with a dog park and dog agility equipment! They even have vegan coconut ice cream FOR THE DOGS! For the humans, they have a vegetable and hummus plate and a hummus sandwich.

Teriyaki Madness 7301 Burnet Rd This is another fast-casual chain choose a bowl place. You pick a protein like tofu teriyaki, a base like brown rice and then vegetables. They also have a yakisoba noodle dish and a stir fry.

Enchiladas y Mas 1911 W Anderson Danielle says “They have killer veggie enchiladas and their refried beans are veg. As is their rice, unless something was seriously messed up in translation their salsa (can be pretty spicy for some) and guacamole rock, too!” Tue-Sat 7-9 Sun 7-2 NOTE reader Alexandra pointed out the veggie enchiladas are not on the menu, you have to ask, but there are fajitas on the menu.

 Happy Vegan Bakery 8309B Research Blvd Although you can get her pastries and savory food in quite a few spots in town, there is also this storefront in north Austin with to-go food like Mac & Cheese.

Ramen Tatsu-ya 8557 Research Blvd # 126 this super popular Ramen place. They have assured me that the lunch special, the vegan mazemen, is totally vegan.

Sugar Pine 8578 Research. Casual restaurant serves ice cream, bento boxes, and on-the-go onigiri while offering a variety of drinks and a dog friendly outdoor patio. The ice creams and pastries aren’t vegan friendly but there are several  onigiri, soba noodles, & a tofu bento.

Le Bleu 9070 Research Blvd Ste 200 From the makers of the popular Saigon Le Verdeur  food truck, this modern Vietnamese restaurant has vermicelli bowls and bahn mi with tofu and seitan. A vegan menu is available.

Bombay To Kathmandu Kitchen 9616 N Lamar Blvd Ste 168. Indian restaurant with specials from Nepal as well. Vegan and vegetarian sections on the menu. You can order online for takeout or delivery.

Madras Pavilion Vegetarian Indian restaurant. Offers a vegan-friendly daily lunch buffet.

Sushi Bang Bang 14005 N  HWY 183, STE 1000, lots of vegetable rolls like sweet potato (ask them to make it without eel sauce), mixed vegetable, asparagus, and avocado mango.

O’Joy 11101, Burnet Rd Organic Juice and Yogurt. The unique bit about this juice place is that for every menu item you buy they donate a meal to someone in need. So you can get your green smoothie or beet juice guilt free. They also have a menu of super healthy sounding wraps like “SKINNY SALAD” Organic Kale, Organic Spinach, Organic Arugula, Organic Tomatoes, Organic Cucumber, Organic Garbanzo Beans and Organic Chia Seeds with our Home-made Organic Lime Vinaigrette. They use organic before every ingredient which makes reading the menu nearly impossible.

Thai House Austin 9041 Research Blvd Lunch Buffet has vegan options. Ross from Vegans Rock Austin says it’s one of his favorite places up north and loves the curries.

Dang Bánh Mì 9070 Research Blvd Suite 303. This Bánh Mì spot has tofu sandwiches and the bread doesn’t contain and dairy products or egg. The peanut sauce is vegan too. The Lemongrass Tofu vermicelli noodle salad and the spring rolls can both be made vegan. They have updated their menu with a jackfruit “pulled pork” taco, they also have rice bowls with tofu and vegetables. Here is what they said “Our vegetarian options can be vegainzed easily. The veg pulled pork tacos by removing the cheese. And the steam buns by asking for no mayo. We have some vegan sauces we can swap them out for so you still have a mixture of flavor. I recommend the chimichurri or the tofu sauce. Our tofu dishes can be made truly vegan by asking for it to be pan seared.”

Triumph Cafe– 3808 Spicewood Springs. Vietnamese dishes like Coconut Tofu and eggplant and green bean stir-fry. Open until 9 on weekdays and 10 on the weekend.

Dimassis Mediterranean Buffet 12636 Research Boulevard Huge buffet with stuffed vegan cabbage rolls, salads, many hummus flavors, green beans, okra, and other vegetable dishes along with falafel & vegan baklava.

Molcas Mexican Restaurant– 8127 Mesa Drive, Mexican restaurant with a vegetarian menu including vegetable fajitas and fried avocado tacos. Here is a review from Veggies, Foodies, Austinites. Open Mon-Sat 7am-10:30 pm and Sunday 7am – 9pm.

Masala Wok 10515 N. MoPac Expressway with another location on tech ridge. Chain restaurant stir-frys. What’s vegan isn’t clear so you have to ask. 11-10pm.

Salata 10515 N Mopac Expy Ste A-165. This is a “pick your ingredients” salad bar place where For $8, you have an unlimited selection of greens, veggies, fruits, and nuts that is tossed with dressing at the end. The vegan dressings are Lemon Vinaigrette, Balsamic Vinaigrette, and Fat-Free Sun-Dried Tomato. They also have a vegan chipotle sauce. Another location in Round Rock.

Pho Taison Vietnamese Cuisine 2438 W. Anderson although there are also locations by UT, south on William Cannon and in Southpark Meadows, Lakeway, and Kyle. Vegan pho, Singaporean Tofu, lemongrass vermicelli bowls, curry and more. The menu is online. Molly said and “Tofu in [the Singaporean tofu is] infused with chiles”. and “the chiles were incorporated into the soy milk before it was curdled” I can’t wait to try it!

Hanabi Ramen 2525 W Anderson Ln. Their veggie ramen is made with a shitake shoyu broth.

Alborz Persian Cuisine 3300 W Anderson Lane Traditional Iranian spot with Persian lunch buffet. Many vegetarian plates including one with skewered vegetables. The torshi leeteh looks good too.

Eldorado 3300 W. Anderson Lane. This Mexican restaurant has lots of veganizable options so no meat broths or butter, no lard in beans, no broth in rice, no animal products in corn tortillas or chips. Crispy tacos, tostadas, and enchiladas can all be easily made vegan with mushrooms as an option and no cheese. All the sauces are vegan. They also have a vegetable plate with Lemon Garlic Roasted Cauliflower, Carrots, Peppers & Onions, 3 Potato Hash, and a Butternut Squash hash. Just make sure you tell the server you are vegan so you don’t get a sprinkle of cheese.

Shandeez Restaurant 8863 Anderson Mill Rd.Suite 109 Traditional Iranian Restaurant with several different vegetarian plates with items like Mirza-Ghasemi and veggie stew. Mon-Thur 11-9 Fri & Sat 11-10. Closed Sunday.

Satay – 3202 West Anderson This is supposed to be one of the best Thai places in town but since I rarely go this far north I can’t tell you for sure! Open until 9:30 weekdays and 10:30 Friday & Saturday.

Amy’s China Cuisine – Cedar Park 1335 E. Whitestone Blvd. #190. Vegetarian menu with items like Salt and Pepper Tofu, General Tso’s Tofu, and Hot and Sour Cabbage.

Ike’s Love and Sandwiches – 1335 East Whitestone Boulevard and  5207 Brodie Lane, Suite 210 in Sunset Valley. This San Fransico chain has tons of vegan options like Vegan turkey, fried chicken, and meatballs. All of the bread they use, including the gluten-free option, are dairy-free. There is also a vegan “dirty sauce” which is a garlic aioli spread.

Eurasia 1335 E Whitestone Blvd Ste T-110 Ramen spot in Cedar Park with a vegan ramen option.

Dimassi’s Mediterranean Buffet– 12636 Research blvd Austin, south of mcneil and 183 an all you can eat Mediterranean buffet, everything is well labeled with ingredients.

Yummi tacos – This Korean Mexican fusion spot sounds like they have some vegan options for their tacos – fried tofu and eggplant – but I haven’t confirmed.

Fire Bowl Cafe Great Hills Market 9828 Great Hills Trail #100 in the Arboretum with another location in South Austin Brodie Lane shopping madness. This is one of those places where you pick your veg, your grain, your protein, and your sauce and they stir fry it together. Veggie sign means vegan except they do use egg in their refried beans so watch out. Danielle says ” I love-their cucumber & tomato salad (an app) and a cold peanut noodle salad (entree)”

Kale Me Crazy 8300 N. FM 620 Superfood cafe with some raw vegan options, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, a wrap, and acai bowls. They also sell “cleanses”.

Momiji Hibachi and Sushi 13201 Ranch Road 620 Ross from Vegans Rock Austin loves their hibachi lunch which comes with “home-fried tofu and vegetable stir-fry with dipping sauces, as well as vegan miso soup”. And they deliver!

Lilly’s Sandwich Shop 10901 N Lamar Blvd A.d. Keese says “They have an awesome bahn mi sandwich. You have to hold the mayonnaise. I add the Vegenaise at home.”

TC Noodle House 10901 North Lamar Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant by MT supermarket. The menu has a noodle and vegetarian section with items like Tofu with Orange Peel Sauce, Lo-Mein with Imitation Duck and Water Spinach with Salted Tofu Sauce.

Swad 1401 S. I-35 in Round Rock. Vegetarian South Indian restaurant. I haven’t been here in probably ten years but it is supposed to be one of the most authentic vegetarian Indian spots in town. Closes between lunch and dinner on the weekdays. Open until 9:30pm

Mellow Mushroom  2600 Interstate 35 Frontage Rd This chain has daiya cheese you can put on their pizzas and calzones along with tempeh and tofu for toppings.

Inchin’s Bamboo Garden Sara says they have an “extensive, vegan menu if you ask for it. Everything I’ve tried so far has been great! They serve “Pan-Asian” food”.

Blind Squirrel– Lunch sandwich place. Andrew says “they have a really delicious portobello sandwich on a vegan bun. They usually have a rotating vegan sandwich on the menu as well.”

PizzaRev– Vegan dough at this custom pizza spot has daiya cheese for $1 more and unlimited toppings.

Jack Allen’s Kitchen– Andrew says “no vegan menu, however, my wife and I had our reception dinner here and they made our family an amazing off menu (we planned way in advance) beet and butternut squash ravioli along with some insane appetizers.”
